You Want A Website, You Just Don’t Know It Yet

February 5th, 2010

And thus begins a 10 part series that will convert web users to web masters. Even you.

Part One: Everyone Has Something to Share with the World

Give me a person and I can give you a website. Not literally of course. What I mean to say is that you have experienced several years of a life so unique that it can only be called yours – even though there’s six and a half billion people in the world. So what? Well, there’s something that you have that nobody else does – and whatever that is will be inherently interesting to a lot of people. Bored at Work?

bored at work

Bored at Work? Not as bored as this guy.

I don’t know whether to be proud or depressed, but I do know that I’ve got a great and haunting memory to recall the next time I think I’m bored while coding HTML or something similar. The other night I discovered the true peak of tedium.

You see, it was inventory day at my retail store and of course, everything needs to be precisely counted. Understandable.

After counting DVD’s, blue-rays and other mildly annoying things, I was then chosen for what I hope was a task that nobody else had the mental stamina to undertake.

Paperless Office

December 10th, 2009

I was just working away and noticed that, at my day job, I have several binders full of paper, a drawer full of documents, a locker full of business cards and training materials – but here, online, I have Google. Google calender that syncs with my blackberry. Document storage. Picture storage, email, news, weather, sports… Just kind of struck me as being amazing – and the best part is, Google organizes everything for me! I honestly am a messy person, but in Google, all my contacts are alphabetized, I don’t have to struggle to read my own writing, I can’t lose anything or spill coffee on everything. It’s just really cool. What’s really messed up is that it’s free. Kudos Google, you make me a better me.
