And thus begins a 10 part series that will convert web users to web masters. Even you.
Part One: Everyone Has Something to Share with the World
Give me a person and I can give you a website. Not literally of course. What I mean to say is that you have experienced several years of a life so unique that it can only be called yours – even though there’s six and a half billion people in the world. So what? Well, there’s something that you have that nobody else does – and whatever that is will be inherently interesting to a lot of people. For example:
Joe loves sports – hockey most of all, and his favourite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs. He’s not so big on the superstar hockey players, but what he really finds interesting are the players who the Leafs are keeping an eye on in their American Hockey League affiliate the Toronto Marlies. He reads about them, gets to see a game every once in a while, and is the type of guy who knows everyone’s name, number and stats.
Joe has a website idea that will not only educate and entertain the thousands of Marlies and Leafs fans, but has a place to keep his thoughts of the league organized, a place to track statistics, a place to rant about the crappy job the coach did last night, and a chance to talk hockey with people he wouldn’t have otherwise known via a forum or even just comments in a blog.
How cool is that? If you can answer a question below, you have an interesting website idea.
What are you deeply interested in right now? Ex. Activities in your local area, seeing eye dogs
What are you an expert at? Ex. Making custom cell phone charms, framing pictures
What do you hate? Ex. The amount of commercials on TV, imprecise whether forcasts
What do you love? Ex. The idea of subliminal messaging, exercise balls
What do you know? Ex. The history of your town, how to cut your laundry bills in half
You have something to say – it might take some digging, but it’s in there – and you’d be amazed at what happens when you start to share your ideas. Remember those 6.5 Billion people? Well if even 0.0000001% of people are interested in what you have to say, that’s 650 people you’ve helped, entertained, trained or otherwise impacted. 650 people who you can exchange ideas with on something that’s very important to you. And, if you’re money-hungry like me, 650 people who’ll be exposed to your own Google ads every time you post something new to your site, which can make you a substantial amount of money over the course of a few years – but I’ll hang on to those juicy details for a little while longer.
So, start toying around with ideas. Ask yourself the italicized questions. Jot down some answers and hang on to them – just to humor me. As this series progresses, you may be glad you did…

I'm a cell phone salesperson and webmaster. Retail sales gives me an edge with understanding customers, and being a cell phone pro means I'm privy to the latest trends in all things mobile.
I’m still somewhat puzzled on your entry here. Do you really think that? I don’t say you’re wrong, but you’ll have to produce the perfect discussion so that you can convince others that you’re right.
@Doorbell: lol… I don’t know about a perfect discussion – just a really good one. And I have 9 more articles to finish out this series yet, so lots of room for convincing
Thanks for the comment.
Great Read! Looking forward to more! Bookmarked the site and will be back again!
This is a very good site! My weblog to have many words, but your blog is better. My compliments!
Another great post!
@Simon: Thanks!
Hey I just wanted to let you know, I really like the written material on your web site. But I am employing Chromium on a machine running version 9.10 of Ubuntu and the look and feel aren’t quite correct. Not a strong deal, I can still essentially read the articles and explore for info, but just wanted to inform you about that. The navigation bar is kind of difficult to use with the config I’m running. Keep up the great work!
Your template is very good! This is nice!
@Rodrick: Cool, glad you think so!
Will any one be in a position to smell a smoke smell on me?
@Melinda: I’m really not sure what that means…

Hello, how are you? I truly like your blog! I am wondering if u might help me (im certain some other readers may also be interested). I would also like to get into creating a blog also and I at the moment use a blog with wordpress, but it is quite difficult for me to make and I would like to attempt to get several decent training materials or courses (hopefully ones that are free) that can hopefully assist me in using word press correctly. As a word press web master yourself, do you perhaps know were i can get online tutorials to be able to do this myself?? Thank you
What kind of info are you looking for? What do you want your site to do/have? Let me know in detail what you need and I’ll happily give you a run down on what to do and how to do it.
