Admittedly wordpress is a lot easier to use than Joomla or Drupal CMS or any of the other ones out there. SEO is a lot easier too with so many high PR blogs itching to link to cool content for their followers. I’ve seen blogs rack up a PR6 homepage within a couple months of being online, which is just outstanding.
What about forums? Yet again, several plugins exist. I think feature-wise, a wordpress blog has nearly as much going for it as a CMS does. So why even consider CMS?
For me, what it all comes down to is the type of content you have, and user-trust. I find that Joomla handles static, anchor-type content better, and wordpress is better for super-fresh, constantly updating content. WordPress is very content-focused, and as such, you’ll have a slightly harder time finding a design theme that really matches what your heart desires, but you’ll reach many more people because of the social networking and subscription options that stem from blogs.
Joomla CMS, on the other hand, is much easier to customize – and the themes just look more solid. A typical website user can easily detect what’s a blog and what’s a site (tag clouds, super-long home pages), and without a doubt more credit and trust will be given to the site. Blogs still seem to have a stigma of an ‘indie’ feel to them, like the owner isn’t good enough to have a site so they do a blog instead, which really hinders a users ability to trust your site.
Trust is a major issue on the web. People don’t buy things they don’t trust. So, even though blogs can do pretty much everything a CMS does – they’re still a blog in the eyes of your visitors and will always be second best as far as trust and static content goes. So what to do? Why not both.
