Let me set the scene for you. Late January 2010 in a small city in Ontario, Canada. A young-ish man is at his day job as a retail salesperson, working on commission. There’s a snowstorm outside. Not a customer in sight for this poor soul. But he’s not complaining, because while everyone else is texting their friends about how boring work is, this guy is posting to his blog from his blackberry. The boss walks by, he casually sets the blackberry down and smiles as his boss scolds another worker for being on facebook at one of the nearby computer terminals. So, even though this commissioned salesperson isn’t making a dime tonight, he knows his continued blogging will continue to draw visitors to his site for years to come through the magic of backlinks – thereby making him at least a little coin for his time.
Surprise, surprise – that guy is me. I downloaded the beta wordpress for blackberry app yesterday and can’t stop telling people about it. I love it. Hell I’m in love with it. Never before has it been so quick and easy to post content that will drive traffic to my site while I’m on the go, or on the can, or bored at work.
What’s that, what about pictures, videos and links? You need links for SEO right? Easy just start typing in “http” and magically the program will ask if you want to make a link. The beta version allows you to post a picture that you’ve already taken, or take one on the fly, title it, and position it top or bottom. Video support is coming… Danilo of blackberry.wordpress.org tells me a couple days ago that “the 1.0 release, that is very near, has the ability to record and upload videos from your phone. both 3gp and 3g2 will be supported.”
Very excited about that.
The beta version of wordpress for blackberry is available now at blackberry.wordpress.com, and with that it looks like I may have a snow covered customer who looks like they might want to buy something, so I’ll bid you all a good evening.
Just a note, this post in its entirety, including spell-checked content, links, and picture, was created and posted from my blackberry. And if you leave a comment, I’ll read and respond via blackberry too!
